Psalm 144: Considering Beaver Dams, Mountains, and Palaces

Uncle D led us to a lovely valley under the watchful gaze of Mount Lassen which held a delightful surprise -- a beaver dam! So here are Gingham and Calico, sandwiched between the beaver-made mountain and the God-made mountain:

Mount Lassen is a sleeping volcano. The clouds hint at its fiery past, and turned my thoughts to Psalm 144, a psalm of David:

Bow your heavens, O Lord, and come down! Touch the mountains so that they smoke!

Then, as I read through the rest of the psalm, this verse caught my attention:

May...our daughters [be] like corner pillars cut for the structure of a palace (v. 12b)

So now I am considering palaces and their corner pillars.

Would they not be carefully shaped and polished?
Would they not be the strongest of pillars?
Would they not be made of the finest materials?

Loveliness of soul, strength and quality of character -- isn't this what we desire for our daughters? As David writes, these daughters are blessings from God:

Blessed are the people to whom such blessings fall!
Blessed are the people whose God is the Lord!
(v. 15)

No Ordinary Ornament

Took a break from decorating the tree. Returned to find an ornament had attached itself in my absence.
