On the way home from church we encountered a DUI checkpoint just before the entrance to our subdivision. We sat several long minutes while a squad of police officers questioned drivers and motioned most of them over to the side of the highway. Calico was fascinated, but our explanations only led to further questions.
"What's a 'DUI'?"
"What's a breathalyzer?"
We were one of the only cars waved past, which surprisingly surprised Gingham. Perhaps she didn't realize that her daddy, soberly sitting in a minivan with wife, kids, and a stack of Bibles beside him, did not appear a likely candidate for the drunk tank.
As we drove past the parked cars and unhappy drivers, Dad commented, "It must be because the Super Bowl was this afternoon."
Then it came.
Calico's shocking final question:
"What's a......
'Super Bowl'?"
