Tornado alert!

Mark had last week off, so we decided to take advantage of his freedom to make a couple excursions. On Monday we drove south to visit friends in Fresno. On Friday, we headed west for a field trip with the girls.

We're not in Kansas, nor anywhere near tornado alley, but in both directions we traveled we crossed paths with Dorothy's nemesis: tornado!

As anyone who has driven I-99 through the Central Valley can tell you, it is not the most exciting of drives. In fact, it's a snoozer (though I hope you don't, if you're driving). Monday's road trip to Fresno, however, was enlivened by a twister-spotting! Okay, well, a funnel cloud-spotting! In Tuesday's paper we read that it actually had touched the ground briefly, which means it had officially been a tornado, but by the time we spotted it, the funnel had lifted up and was dissipating as we watched.

Little did we know that this would be only the first of two tornado sightings during this eventful week.
